Ohhhh, dear. Well, I should probably tell you now that if you omniscient little hipsters don’t have a place in that music-loving stone of a heart of yours for border-line experimental/pop awesomeness, then you should stop reading. But, not really, because you’re gonna want to hear this. I don’t think I’ve been THIS excited about something since the whole Merriweather Post Pavillion album showed up in my mailbox… accidently… and pre-release date. (Whoops).
Anyway, Clock Opera sprouted from the experimentally ambient mind of some Brit named Guy Connelly. Chopping up electronics and combining song writing with unique noises, the group creates confections that subscribe to a genre they deem “chop pop”. Before you go off on one of your “not another new genre” tirades, just listen. These guys seriously have mad/addicting/instantly loveable/pop-experimental skills. My favorite review comes, once again, from the Neon Gold kids who liken Clock Opera’s musical stylings to an Antony & The Johnsons collab with Four Tet (aka HEAVEN ON A 7”)… and if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, then, frankly, I don’t know what will. Next month (June 7th to be exact) they’ll officially release their single (“A Piece of String”), but, for now, I have it for you below, along with a number of other songs that are simply remarkable. You can thank me later.
ORIGINAL SONGS TO LISTEN TO:
Clock Opera—Once and For All <3
OHHHH and they do some KICK ASS remixes.
REMIXES TO LISTEN TO:
Marina and the Diamonds—I Am Not a Robot (Clock Opera remix) <3
- If you know me at all (or if you happened to catch me at Fader Fort during SXSW), then you intimately know my love for Marina and the Diamonds. This is, hands down, the best remix I have ever heard in my life. And yes, I realize that is a grand thing to say, but this song is monumental. I bless your ears.
The Golden Filter—Hide Me (Clock Opera remix)
Phenomenal Handclap Band—Baby (Clock Opera remix)
