SCHOOL.IS.OFFICIALY.OVER. Forever and ever. And ever. (Unless I decide to get my act together and go to grad school…) But, for now, I’ve been enjoying my fabulously humid Austin summer vacation with this conglomeration of some personal faves (Sleigh Bells, Ratatat, Delorean, etc). I’ve included some brief descriptions. Just for kicks. You’re welcome.
IT’S GETTING HOT IN HURRR:
-A.K.A. the new “Seventeen Years”… It will literally feel like you got knocked in the head with a baseball bat. Listen and you shall understand.
-The first single off the new album, and thankfully so. It’s a little more low key than “Neckbrace” but still just as instrumentally fantastic.
(PS: Ratatat’s LP4 drops on June 8th… so get yourself some electro-instrumental goodness before it goes mainstream again while it’s hot)
-I like to describe this song with a picture:

-How does this song (like the one above) not make you feel like frolicking on a Barcelona beach in the midst of summer. Absolutely lovely.
(AND YES… I am still absolutely devastated that they will not be opening for Miike Snow come June, but I’m planning on harassing them until they come to Austin. Being psycho Taking one for the team.)
Sleigh Bells—Kids (previously known under “Beach Girls”)
-CAN YOU FEEL THA BEAT. That’s all I have to say.
-“Am I on an alien ship in the middle of outer space? No? Well.. it sure as hell feels like it”
(SIDE NOTE: This album was absolutely everything I expected and more… it kicks you in the FACE over and over again, which, if you don’t know, is a really freaking good thing. I dare you not to fall in love with them. Double-dog.)
-If you liked their first album, then this song will be your toast and jam.
-Nope, you won’t be able to understand Alice, but you can still thrash your body around to this song and take some breathers during the stripped-down synth parts.
(Crystal Castles release their cleverly titled sophomore album—Crystal Castles II—on May 24th… and psychotic tendencies aside, it’s pretty much awesome.)
- “My Money and My Daugher Go To Fang Island”—one of my brilliantly thought out #pitchforkbumperstickers twitter posts. It was a fave; so much so that I’ll probably make it into a real life bumper sticker. Or a t-shirt. Pitchfork is all up on this band’s johnson, but more importantly I like them… so, you should too.
(OH SNAP… Fang Island is coming to AUSTIN on May 18th. The show is at EMO’S with Hollerado, Zlam Dunk, and Agent Ribbons. PLAN CHANGE: definitely making that “bumper sticker” into a t-shirt and definitely attending this show wearing it.)
