No. It is not too early to be planning my summer soundtrack, which will most likely be named something clever like “HOT IN HURRRR” or “2 hot 4 lyfe” (because, let’s face it, “updating my music” usually means “coming up with smart/catchy/creative playlist names that will make me laugh out loud”, and, it’s going to be a freaking scorcher). Anyway, there’s this band called The Black Keys. They are pretty awesome. They’re coming out with a new album (Brothers) that, by playing repetitively, has managed to commandeer my brain and completely take control of every aspect of my walking to class/job hunting/”i dont want to grow up” life these days. The image it conjures is: me cheeking bourbon on the rocks, hunched in a dimly lit corner, listening to these raw concoctions seep from a rusty jukebox through the smoke-filled air and directly into my soul. BAM. How’s that for imagery.

I’ve picked a few exclusive faves:

The Black Keys— Howlin’ For You

The Black Keys—Next Girl

The Black Keys—The Go Getter

The Black Keys—Tighten Up

The Black Keys—She’s Long Gone

The Black Keys—I’m Not the One

PS: good news… the album has 15 tracks!!!11!!1!!!

As an avid lover of this blues/rock infused duo for some time and as a person who always gets a tad nervous when my fave bands release new shit (on the off-chance that they will suck and force me to pretend I never listened them in the first place), I was thrilled to see that the pair delivered their same despondent twangs on a refreshing new level. I would like to think that maybe their supergroup collaboration with some bamf hip-hop/rap artists influenced a majority of the numbers on this album. I don’t know… food for musically intellectual thought. ENJOY
