I’m going to go ahead and annoy you all by being yet another person to say: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS WEATHER?!? 75 degrees TWO DAYS ago, and now look at this icey/snowy/sleety/rainy crap we’ve got going on. Crazy.

Ok, moving on. Choir of Young Believers just happens to be the perfect antidote for today and one of the groups I’m looking forward to seeing come March (which, by the way, is closing in on us rather quickly). Coming to us from Copenhagen, Denmark, Choir of Young Believers is the brainchild of 26-year-old Danish/Greek frontman, Jannis Noya Makrigiannis. With their debut album released a couple of years ago, the band has made a lovely name for themselves abroad and now strive to bring their low key folk/orchestral indie pop stateside and into the hearts of indie folk music lovers. Scandinavian stalkers, rejoice! Their songs are at times darkly romantic, yet, at other intervals, light-heartedly upbeat, but thankfully all enticingly beautiful. With live performances rumored to alternate between a dual guitar and cello performance and a full ensemble band, their set in Austin (which I will look up and update you on later) should be very intriguing.

UPDATE: So far the only show I know these kids are playing is an “official” show at The Galaxy Room (aka ex-Bourbon Rocks/Radio Room on 6th) on Wednesday, March 17th, at 9 pm. They will play alongside Soko, Fanfarlo, Ozomatli, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Miike Snow. I also added another song and fixed the Action Reaction link :)

Songs to Listen To:

Choir of Young Believers—Claustrophobia

Choir of Young Believers—Action Reaction

Choir of Young Believers—Next Summer

PS: I think they just went on tour with Casiokids—a Norwegian band who also might grace us with their Scandinavian presence at SXSW 2010. So enjoy this extra little treat:

Casiokids—Finn Bikkjen!
